MTV Show comes to Manchester

THIS Tuesday (29/10) at 10pm prepare to be entertained as the hilarious new reality show ‘Beauty School Cop Outs’ is aired on MTV.

The show stars eight appearance obsessed contestants, who are guided by experts in a luxurious Manchester salon, and given the chance of a lifetime to kick start their beauty careers.

Appearing on the show is also one of Manchester’s top hairdressers, Jamilla Paul, who I met up with earlier in the week to chat to about the exciting new show.

She said: “I’m the boss, the lead mentor, and I’ll be setting them tasks, finding out what they like and what they are good at, and nurturing them so they can actually do it.”

Throughout the show the beauty hopefuls will be practising their waxing, shaving and even tattooing skills on real customers.

However, Jamilla insists “There have been no disasters.”

Filmed mainly at Jamilla’s Rochdale salon the show consists of some crazy characters. For instance, Calvin, the Beyonce obsessed scouse drag queen who wants to pass on the ‘drag legacy’, and self-confessed ‘tanaholic’ Scarlett whose tanning obsession began at the age of 14.

There’s also Daniel who has a phobia of fat people, Jeremy who’ needs’ a weekly manicure, barmaid Sacha, Barbie girl Savannah and outspoken Tara.

“There are lots of tears and laughter, but about helping them to understand what they need to learn to have a successful career in this industry.”

Jamilla, who has been in the beauty business for fifteen years and owns two top salons in Manchester, was handpicked by MTV producers to mentor for the show:

“I’m not sure what the producers thought they were getting when they hired me, but I’m determined the programme will not belittle the industry. I will focus on tasks that will reveal the best side of hairdressing and beauty, and the level of commitment needed to master the crafts,”

Beauty School Cop Out’s is thought to reveal the truth inside the beauty industry and is tipped to be one of MTV’s biggest show hits this winter.

You are sure to fall in love with this hilarious new cast as you follow their journey to beauty greatness, starting from the bottom pulling hair from plugs and sweeping floors just like in the real world, witnessing their beauty casualties and triumphs along the way.

Don’t miss the show which airs Tuesday at 10pm on MTV to see Manchester’s own star Jamilla Paul take control of these crazy characters.

Breaking Bad cooks up a storm

Breaking bad hit our screens last Sunday, as its final episode aired creating a frenzy on Twitter.

Five series of anticipation, action and intensity flew by; as viewers watched the mild high school chemistry teacher, Walter White, turn into fearless meth maker ‘Heisenberg’ after being diagnosed with lung cancer.

Working alongside his unlikely partner and ex-student, Jesse Pinkman, the pair develop a strange bond, which viewers see develop and change as the series takes many twists and turns.

Throughout the series fans become attached to the characters and almost addicted to the shows sensational story line.

Many viewers binged on the series, spending late nights watching episode after episode in order to feed the ‘Breaking Bad bug’.

When the creator of Breaking Bad, highly praised Vince Gilligan, was asked about the series he stated: ‘I want the audience to rediscover empathy.’

Initially we feel for Walt, the poor, geeky, family man whose cancer diagnosis saddens the viewer.

But as the characters develop and the plot thickens our empathy becomes less focused on cancer victim Walt but also for other characters. Many feel for Jesse and feel proud as we see him face challenges and grow from a boy into a man, others feel for Skyler, and some even feel for DEA agent and brother in law of the meth mastermind, Hank.

Fans have spent months speculating about how the show would finish in the days leading up to the final, and to many (including myself) the show couldn’t have ended better.

Unlike many popular TV series Breaking Bad doesn’t deflate the viewer on the last episode. Instead it ties up loose ends and does not disappoint.

Twitter went crazy as the prestigioug Emmy award winning series came to an end. The hashtag #goodbyebreakingbad trended worldwide, with many celebrities getting involved.

Users such as, Melissa Gilbert, tweeted: ‘I’ve seen the end of the end of the best show on television, in my lifetime. @BreakingBad_AMC Smart. Moving. Thought provoking. Perfect’.

US talk show host Ellen DeGeneres joined many viewers who were tucked up on the sofa, clinging to the last episode, eagerly waiting to see the fate of Bryan Cranston’s now iconic character, Walter White.

‘No more murderous drug dealers and horrifying criminals. I miss it already.’ She tweeted.

Other celebrities like Actor Ewan McGregor expressed sadness over the ending of the epic series, he posted: ‘Breaking Bad. Ends Tonight. #gotthebluesalready.’

Cranston, 57, told Entertainment Weekly that the climax was ‘very satisfying’ and ‘unapologetic’ and he has said that he is happy with how things turned out for his character. Cranston’s impeccable acting in Breaking Bad has seen him rightfully win the best actor award three times.

Like many viewers my cosy nights in now seem less exciting and I am saddened that the series has to come to an end.

However, we will not have to mourn for too long as it has been confirmed that a spin-off based on the character Saul Goodman was recently given the go ahead.
